Stroke check up

A comprehensive examination enabling early diagnosis of changes in the vessels and vascular
diseases. It is accompanied by health counselling.

It is still a wide-spread opinion that a stroke can occur unexpectedly. In fact it takes decades and not minutes for a stroke to develop. The most important reasons for a stroke are high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis. Due to plaques a normally elastic vascular wall hardens increasingly; the smooth internal wall of the vessel becomes rough. As plagues grow, the vessels narrow more and more. Blood clots can develop; those can be then swept into smaller brain arteries and can occlude them. Finally a stroke can occur.

It is crucial to diagnose arteriosclerosis as early as possible. Regular preventive check-ups are for this reason very important especially for at-risk patients. In the case of early recognition of changes you can keep your vessels elastic and flexible by means of special preventive measures and this way decrease your risk of having a stroke.

A stroke check-up carried out in our practice provides you with information about the condition of your vessels. In a thorough preliminary consultation your current complaints, your previous diseases and family risk factors are discussed and summed up. Ultrasound examination of the arteries supplying the brain is carried out. Laboratory examination is optional.
Special laboratory examinations add up to the full picture. Finally your risk profile is created and your doctor informs you about the preventive measures that can diminish your risk of having a stroke.
